In virtually every industry, the competitive stakes are being raised as companies are forced to move faster, grow more efficient, and find fresh sources of differentiation. BCG's Operations practice is dedicated to helping clients achieve a decisive competitive advantage through operational excellence. Among wide range of Operations practice topic areas, two of them are highly demanded in this turbulent times. They are: Turnaround and Lean.
Lean
In the late 1980s, BCG was a pioneer in applying Japanese-inspired improvement practices with Time-Based Competition (TBC). Since then, using a Lean approach that is both comprehensive and strategic, BCG's Lean experts have transformed the manufacturing and service operations of companies around the world, in a wide range of industries.
Our holistic framework for lean transformation ensures client success by integrating four critical areas: business strategy, operational effectiveness, people engagement, and performance management. To deliver maximum results quickly, we focus on high-impact activities, prioritize improvement opportunities, and use our proven change-management approach to engage employees at all levels of the organization. Our approach delivers dramatic results: cycle-time reductions of 60 to 90 percent, inventory reductions of 40+ percent, improved customer service levels, fewer capital expenditures, and cost savings of 10 to 30 percent.
Turnaround
Companies in financial distress have a distinct set of short—and long-term needs. BCG has developed a unique approach to turnaround in order to help clients in financial stress by leveraging our deep industry expertise and our insight into the most important operational, strategic, organizational, and financial levers.
We focus on companies in the early stages of financial crisis, such as when a refinancing hurdle is on the horizon, or when loan covenants are breached. Our goal is to reach clients early—ideally, 12-18 months before a potential in-court restructuring would be required-where there are still the resources and time to fundamentally change the trajectory of their performance. However, when bankruptcy is the ultimate course the company takes, BCG believes it has the right mix of expertise to support our clients during this process as well.
